The ‘Therapists: Between Sessions’ Podcast
‘Therapists: Between Sessions’ grew out of the conversations we found ourselves having between clients. Sophie Hirst and I met while renting therapy rooms together, and what began as quick chats in the hallway gradually became shared voice notes, coffees, dinners and a genuine friendship.
Along the way, we realised many of those conversations reached beyond the therapy room. We talked about authenticity, burnout, boundaries, imposter syndrome and the everyday realities of being therapists, but also about being human. Those conversations became this podcast.
Although we’re not currently recording new episodes, the conversations we've already shared continue to reflect the values that shaped them: honesty, curiosity and compassion. If you're interested in the human side of therapy, I hope you'll enjoy listening.

Episode One: Imposter Syndrome - Who do we think we are?
Welcome to our very first episode, where we’re already feeling like imposters just hitting ‘record’ on this podcast!
We talk openly (and with plenty of laughs) about what imposter syndrome sounds like in our heads, how it shows up in our work and lives, and why putting ourselves out there, like right now, can feel so exposing.
We share the moments we’ve felt like frauds, the rare times we’ve actually felt good enough, and what we’re learning to do to support ourselves through the wobbles. It’s honest, warm, and maybe a little too relatable.

Episode Two: Authenticity vs. Appearance - We don't have to have it all figured out.
This week we’re talking about the pressure to look like we’ve got it all together, especially as therapists. From social media to real life, it’s easy to assume everyone else is coping better than we are.
We chat about the difference between looking sorted and actually feeling it, and how vulnerable (and freeing) it can be to just show up as yourself, messy bits and all.

-
Episode Three: The Therapist in Therapy - Why we practice what we preach.
Being a therapist doesn’t mean we’ve got it all figured out. In this episode, we talk about what it’s really like to sit on the other side of the room, our therapy journeys, how we value and use therapy, and how finding the right therapist can make all the difference.
We share why we practice what we preach, the importance of showing up for ourselves, doing the work, and staying real about how messy growth can be.

Episode Four: Valuing Community - We grow best when we grow together.
This episode takes us right back to where it all started! Two therapists renting therapy rooms side by side, chatting between sessions, swapping stories, and realising how much connection matters.
Jo and Sophie talk about the roots of their friendship and reflect on how vital community is in a profession that can often feel isolating.
From there, they explore why connection matters for everyone, and the fear that can come with reaching out and the bravery and trust it requires.
